Of course, the central question that researchers were hoping to answer was, "Is there life on Mars?" The spacecraft The Viking spacecraft had two units, one called the orbiter that placed itself in orbit around Mars, and the other called Views from the lander that made a soft landing on the surface of Mars. the Lander Together the two components weighed 3.5 metric tons, and were similar to the Soviet Mars spacecraft. The Russian technology involved separation of the modules during the approach; the Viking spacecraft, however, went into orbit around Mars and made several revolutions before separating. This made it possible to adjust the orbital path and select a landing site on the basis of actual flight and landing conditions. MARS BETAT
